1.  THE GOLDENBERG SCANDAL

The longest runing corruption deal is the Goldenberg scandal, where the Kenyan government by then under President Moi  and his Vice President Prof. George Saitoti  subsidized exports of gold, paying exporters in Kenya shillings 35% over their foreign currency earnings. In this case,  the gold was smuggled from Congo. The scandal cost Kenya the equivalent of more that 10%of the country’s annual GDP and it is possible that no gold  or minimal amount of gold were exported.

On febuary 3rd 2006 a report  by  Mr Justice Bosire  recommended that the current  education minister George Saitoti should face criminal  charges for his actions and that the former president Moi should be further investigated.

On feb 13 2006 Saitoti resigned from the Government to pave way for the Bosire report to take effect but he has since been cleared by the Kibaki administation and he is back in the government.

What does these mean? It means that Kenyans lost millions spent by Bosire team only to accomplish nothing.

2  THE HELICOPTER CONTRACT

A  Sh 360 million helicopter servicing contract in South Africa.

The millitary officers had argued that the contract was too extravagant  and servicing the helicopters could be done locally. Kenya air force went ahead to spend 108 million shillings as a down payment  for servicing the Puma  helicopters. The millions were finally spent which could have done other services to improve the lives of millions of Kenyans who still live under serious poverty.

3. CONTRUCTION OF NEXUS.

The Government spent 2.6 billion Kenya shillings to construct the secret millitary communication center in Karen. The funding was made through the minisry of Transport and communication  and the construction was completed without any site visits by either the DoD staff or the minisry of public works officials. Currently nobody is able to prove that all those billions were spent on that project a lone or they were diverted to other pockets.

4. SUPPLY  OF  30  PRISON BOILERS

The prison department lost $ 3 million  after contracting  Hallmark International, a company associated with Mr Deepak Kamani of Kamsons motors, for the supply of 30 boilers . Only half of the boilers were delivered from India and not the United States as has agreed. All these happened with VP president Awori as head of that ministry.

5. ANGLO-LEASING   SCANDAL
The scandal is alleged to have started in 2002 when the Kenyan government wanted to replace its passport printing system.

Passport equipment system was sourced from France and the forensic laboratories for the police were sourced from Britain.
